Milly catwalk show report for NYFW S/S 2016
Inside the popular ArtBeam event space on West 21st, Milly showcased their new line to a full house, including several stars that came out to support. Solange Knowles, Malin Ackerman and Orange is the New Black cast member Samira Wiley were all seen sitting front row dressed in bright, fun colors.
Said to be inspired by the raw beauty of midsummer colors, founder and designer Mitchelle Smith focused on precise tailoring, utilitarian textiles and the ability to mix soft and structured pieces for a look that is unique yet classically beautiful.
Surprising palettes and textures enticed the well-heeled crowd. Models with pulled back hair and neutral, understated makeup showcased billowy blouses, off-the-shoulder looks and pleated culottes. One of the standouts of the show was a dynamic plunge gown featuring a pattern of red, white, blue and black. You could almost smell the salt-water in the air inspiration with the runway being overtaken with denim looks, linen and inspirational stripes.
Always know for vivid colors and playful silhouettes, the feminine edge was seen perfectly blended with contemporary, wearable fashion. Michelle was heavily influenced by her time spent in Parisian training at Christian Dior Haute Couture, Louis Vuitton and Hermes, and the detailed to craftsmanship can be seen in every piece on the runway.
