LFW – Spijkers en Spijkers AW 2012 collection
Inspired by ‘Birds of Paradise’ the Dutch twin sisters Spijkers en Spijkers Autumn/Winter 2012 collection was light, feminine and had a slightly vintage-esque feel to it. Opening to music that was fresh and powerful, the first piece revealed a gentle yet embracing v-neck dress. The packed out Freemasons Hall was further welcomed to an array of brightly coloured headbands that were styled by Toni and Guy, with curled under slick bob cuts, worked with red lipstick and blue eye shadow’s by the Body Shop for a very empowering look.
The structure of the collection was simple and gentle, but with a combination of navy and purple as well as oranges and yellows, black pieces were brought to life to represent what we all associate to ideas of both birds and paradise. A brown floral print was replicated throughout the designs and matched with grey and black striped garments but you couldn’t help but like the clashing style of print. Silk dresses shone through the collection, focusing upon cut out backs and gentle flowing seams, hung perfectly for true ladylike charm. Additional feather brooch-like accessories were added for full bird effect. The key piece for the season had to be the simple but completely gorgeous black fur coat which reflected altogether the whole focus for the twins A/W 12/13 collection.
