Ten minutes well spent with Hannah Warner and Holly Silius
Body adornment is always something that seems to get a reaction. When I think of the term, I think of the weird and wonderful, I think of culture and I like to expect the unexpected. When I was introduced to H&H, my thoughts were ones that were turned into sheer amazement. I couldn’t help but love what I saw. The latest trend of nail art has begun to get old and I wanted something new and refreshing. This is exactly what I discovered with H&H, so we decided to get in touch.
We spent ten minutes with H&H to get a small insight into their world.
Who is H&H?
H&H is a female duo: Hannah Warner, jewellery designer and Holly Silius, make-up artist.
What is H&H all about?
We are about adorning the body. We have designed a range of metal nail art using our skills.
How did it all start?
We met as two separate creative minds and we joined together in a frenzy to make H&H! We combined our design skills, knowledge and contacts to create an amazing team and that’s how we began. Hannah is good with making processes, electroforming, casting and metals whereas Holly knows how to attach things to the body, as well as having knowledge on sizing and expertise in theatrical makeup. This allows us to make a good team.
Your ideas for nail art are amazing. Where did you get the inspiration for your first project from?
We have drawn inspiration mainly from nature. The nails have an unrefined feel to them and use ideas such as thorns, leaves, thistle, wood and stems. The nails are made in a range of metal-based colours such as silver, gold and black and because they are cast in metal they can be worn more than once. We just wanted to make our creative visions real.
What has been the most exciting thing to happen to H&H in the past 12 months?
We haven’t even existed for 12 months but the Thierry Mugler Autumn/Winter 2012 show at Paris Fashion Week before we even launched was pretty up there!
Do you have any personal inspirations or designers that you love?
We love Lee Bowery, Frank Auerbach and Vivienne Westwood. We also take inspiration from Chanel shows as well as textures and form.
What’s your favourite add-on to an outfit?
Any accessory!
Your website has two sections under construction… What exciting projects do you have coming up in the future?
Imagine every part of your body covered in decorative metal! Watch this space!
What advice would you give someone wanting to bring something new and exciting to the fashion industry?
Just go with your trend.
What is next for H&H?
Always more metal nails, so many more of those to come. Other metal body prosthetics and then who knows what else!
Holly and Hannah have opened up a whole new door in the fashion industry and we cannot wait to see what is in store in the future.
