GB women into Olympics quarter-finals

Team GB women secured their place in the Quarter-Finals with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Cameroon earlier yesterday. Hope Powell’s side now need to beat a strong Brazil side if they are to finish winners of Group E.

Two goals within five minutes of each other midway through the first half but Team GB firmly in control, captain Casey Stoner capitalising on some slack defending to stab the ball home from close range to put the hosts one up.

The second goal showed just how well this side is beginning to come together, Kelly Smith’s deft pass was timed perfectly for Kim Little who clipped the ball into Jill Scott, who struck a first time shot beyond the keeper.

Annette Ngo Ndom was the busier of the two goalies, making fine saves from Smith and Little before palming a header from Steph Houghton.

But Ngo Ndom couldn’t keep the GB surge off for much longer, as Houghton scored her second goal in as many games to secure a 3-0 victory and a place in the Quarter-Finals.
