iPhone 5 to be released on 21st September?

The internet rumour mill is in overdrive with speculation that Apple’s sixth generation iPhone 5 is to be released on September 21st.

Last week a French blog claimed to have the inside scoop on the iPhone 5 launch. The App4phone blog claimed that an anonymous source in the Chinese manufacturing chain had confirmed a launch date of September 21st.

Now the Bloomberg financial news agency and industry blog AllThingsD have added further credence to the claim by confirming the date.

It is now widely expected that Apple will unveil the latest iPhone, alongside a 7-inch mini version of the iPad, on September 12th with sales to commence nine days later.

Pictures and videos of the alleged new iPhone 5 have begun to surface in recent weeks. The images suggest that the new model will retain many of the existing design features. However, it should be noted that before the release of all the previous iPhone models, fake pictures have surfaced.

An autumn release date would correspond with Apple’s product cycle to renew the iPhone after a year. Apple has remained tight-lipped on the rumours.

Following disappointing second quarter results from the technology giant, stock prices have risen in anticipation of the release.
