Anndra Neen: the stunning jewellery collection created by two talented sisters
Founded in April 2009 by sisters Phoebe and Annette Stephens, Anndra Neen is replacing dainty rings and delicate charm bracelets with a modern-day styled armour of piled on cocktail rings, oversized cuffs and chainmail accessories. Born and raised in Mexico City before heading to the Big Apple, Phoebe became a fashion specialist for Phillips De Pury, and Annette pursued a career in theatre before creating Anndra Neen.
Their inspirations are as diverse as they are and begin with a childhood surrounded by artists. Their grandmother, Annette Nancarrow, who married avant-garde composer Conlon Nancarrow, was a painter, sculptor and jewellery designer and collaborated with the Muralist Movement in Mexico. Naturally, their childhood and their grandmother has influenced their exotic designs, as the two sisters mix mediums and fuse varying cultural elements such as Egyptian motifs, Japanese design and French Medieval armour to create their own artefact-styled pieces.
Their pieces, which have been worn by Michelle Obama, Jessica Alba, Drew Barrymore, Nicole Richie and Anna Paquin, among others, are a seductive blend of strength, power and sensuality. Their warrior-meets-lady visions are translated into metal pieces, all of which are handcrafted by artisans in Mexico.
When we discovered Anndra Neen, we were drawn in particular to their stunning cage collection. It brings a whole new meaning to the definition of the word “cage”. They have created cage cuffs, cage collars, cage bibs, cage clutches, cage chokers, cage rings, cage bags, cage necklaces and… wait for it… a cage briefcase! It should make going through airport security interesting on our next holiday, but a girl has to suffer for fashion, right?
The brand appeals to everyone, from professional women to younger girls. It really reaches across the board to a variety of different people and that’s something that we love about the line. Plus, who wouldn’t be drawn to such a stunning collection of jewellery. Every girl wants that statement piece, which you can wear over and over again. It makes you feel special. Excitingly, we have just found out that the girls are expanding into homeware and if their pieces are as amazing as their jewellery, then we will definitely be investing!
The sibling designers are determined to create pieces that will still be relevant fifteen years from now and that possess an authenticity worth being handed down to the next generation. Arm yourself with these bold, feminine statement pieces to satisfy your next metal fix.
