Delve into Pencey’s sexy urban chic
Feminine, sexy chic is what Pencey, the New York-based clothing company, is all about. With its contemporary, urban cool style, the clothing line is a mix of stunning silks with beautiful floral prints and sharp interesting shapes.
There is definitely a feeling of urban chic. When you arrive on the Pencey website, this is confirmed as a video starts playing. The laid-back tones and a female rapper’s bars are played over images of models in street style poses, tattoos and thick black eye liner, giving the garments a more edgy feel. The sleek black and white layout of their website adds to the urban feeling and the inspirational images, which include tigers, topless women and a picture of a Parisian street sign, confirming Pencey’s identity.
The Fall 2012 collection uses a deliciously detailed geometric graphic print that repeats on garments throughout. The print is used all over the floor length Chevron dress, sure to make an impact, and on a knot front top with its twisting fabric adding another dimension to the print. There is also a sports luxe feel to the collection, with small sports shorts and a baseball jacket making the collection spot-on trend. A simpler silhouette is used in parts with the drape dress and T-neck top simplifying the more busy pieces.
The Pencey standard Fall 2012 collection brings more of a simplistic vibe, focusing on the sports luxe trend; the garments are very much influenced by glamour and sportswear. Hooded tops and baggy bottoms exemplify the designs with a muted monotone palette punctuated with vibrant orange and blue. Racing stripes are used as a design detail on some of the garments in contrasting colours and adding to the sports luxe feel.
There is also a line designed by the Australian model Jessica Hart, mixing interesting prints with sharp, tailored pieces. Feminine and masculine at the same time, there are no boring black blazers, but lively and fun tropical prints and businesslike cuts.
Pencey seems to have it sorted: trend-led fashion with a clear identity stamped on it. There are so many stand-out pieces that it’s hard to know what one to pick first. If you want to know more about the collections and how to grab some of the pieces for yourself, have a look at their website here.
