Manchester United agree deal for Robin Van Persie

Arsenal and Manchester United have agreed a deal for the transfer of Robin Van Persie, subject to the player agreeing personal terms and a medical.

The 29-year-old announced last month that he was not going to sign an extension on his current contract that runs out at the end of next season, sparking a chase for the Premier League’s top scorer.

Since Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini ruled himself out of a move for the Dutchman, rivals United have been favourites to sign Van Persie.

The deal is reportedly worth £24 million and is a clear sign of intention from Sir Alex Ferguson that he doesn’t want his “noisy-neighbours” City holding on to the Premier League title for too long.

Van Persie will travel to Manchester tomorrow, where he will sit down to agree personal terms before undertaking a medical. With the Dutchman expected to be named in United’s squad for their opening fixture at Everton on Monday.
