Create some history with Hannah Livingston Jewellery Design
Jewellery designer Hannah Livingston is a little obsessed — to say the least — with the notion of objects carrying their history with them. She has a collection of anonymous old photos, a 1950s typewriter and jewellery passed down through generations. Guessing where these items have been and who owned/carried/used/loved them is a fervent passion of Hannah’s. These unknown questions are what inspire her to create what will be history in the future. The kind of future history where someone may be holding a piece of jewellery owned by you, asking those very same questions. Although creating that type of history is many years away, you can still get your money’s worth by owning a stylish statement piece of your very own right now.
The current, award-winning jewellery line is filled with the element of surprise. Having another obsession with 18th and 19th Century furniture, Hannah created an entire line based on neckpieces shaped like antique furniture. The necklaces have a singular compartment, playing with the idea of an updated 3D locket, where instead of a hidden photo there is a concealed blank piece of parchment, which can be used to write a secret message. “The Parchment is simply a suggestive motivation for the wearer to personalise and incorporate themselves into the piece. The compartments are to be used in whatever manner the wearer wants, as Hannah aims for her pieces to be ‘blank canvases’ for the history of ownership to be shown upon.” There are also beautiful handcrafted motif-styled necklaces, rings and earrings wrapped in 18-carat yellow gold listed.
Hannah lives and works from her studio in Edinburgh and is currently working on a commission and gallery collection basis.
