Minnie Mouse madness: Disney collaboration for London Fashion Week
Since the 1920s, Minnie Mouse has been gracing our screens as one of the most admired and recognised cartoons in history. We all grew up with her and Mickey, whether on bags, clocks and even nail varnish. But now she is really making her debut into the fashion world as designers create one-off garments inspired by Minnie for London Fashion Week this coming September.
That’s right! Those iconic bows, polka dots, ears and all, will be creatively revamped by some of the best designers around and showcased on London’s catwalks. Giles Deacon, Michael van der Ham and Richard Nicoll are just some of the international designers for these Minnie Mouse must-haves. On the accessory front, the likes of Katie Hillier, Lulu Guinness and Terry de Havilland are said to be involved.
The pieces will be revealed and then auctioned on eBay to support the BFC/ Bazaar fashion arts foundation to promote and support between all creative worlds and encourage innovation within the fashion industry.
We love the unique and unusual idea to use Minnie as an inspiration for an entire collection and collaboration. The ability to have remained on-trend for so many years, to still be current and adored is quite something. So it is no wonder really that Minnie was chosen for the collection.
“Minnie Mouse and her unique style continues to inspire fans across the world,” says Marc Low, vice president of Walt Disney fashion and home. “London Fashion Week is the perfect stage for Disney, one of the world’s largest apparel brands, to put a spotlight on Minnie Mouse.” We completely agree and can’t wait to see our favourite mouse be made into a cultural icon and be strutted down that runway in style.
