LFW – Christopher Ciccone debuts the Ciccone Collection

No, Madonna wasn’t there, but a host of London’s coolest fashion folk were in attendance at the Strand Gallery for artist and creative visionary (and yes, brother to the singer) Christopher Ciccone’s London Fashion Week presentation at which he debuted his newly launched Ciccone Collection.

One of the hippest crowds of LFW so far packed the intimate gallery space to view The Ciccone Collection, a fashion-forward footwear range for men, women and children that combine the artist-cum-designer’s creative flair (he was one of the pivotal creative visions behind the infamous Blonde Ambition tour) with an adherence to the basic function of footwear. The shoes, made of leather and rubber, are well designed, highly wearable and quite the eye candy – as were the scantily clad and well-formed male and female models.

Ciccone melds traditional styles with ultra-modern materials and manufacturing techniques to create a classic-looking and cohesive range that also has a very 21st century feel.  Inspired in part by images of classic Hollywood and Italian movie stars, and in part by divas of the past, Christopher has also implemented into the design process his own personal tastes and ideals as to what good, well designed footwear should look like.

The shoes were developed with Czech footwear company Novesta, and together manufacturer and artist have developed a distinctive and outstanding scrollwork layering process, which gives a sharp three-dimensional effect on the boots which feature bold colours, graphic patterns and ultimately very wearable designs of which Christopher himself says: “People have to be able to live in them.”

These are shoes you will want to wear: for London girls, the knee-high rubber boots are the perfect item for the wet months to come. Guys are spoilt for choice, the Igor boot in lizard and the two-tone Anton. Mick, Leo and Mario are just what an often boring, neglected part of the male wardrobe needs.

The Ciccone collection is only a taste of what is to come, Christopher plans on launching a global lifestyle brand in the near future.
