LFW – Jasper Garvida S/S 2013 collection: L’Unité de Temps et L’Espace
On an absolutely sweltering September Saturday in the West End, award-winning London-based designer Jasper Garvida presented his Spring/Summer 2013 collection.
Hosted in one of The Bloomsbury Hotel’s dazzling deco ballrooms with its elegant mirrors and huge chandeliers, the location was the perfect setting to unveil L’Unité de Temps et L’Espace.
Garvida’s summer collections are known for the gorgeous array of colourful dresses, but by contrast, Spring/Summer 2013 looks set to be more black and white!
His inspiration came from the innovative and bold expression of the 1960s — the iconic styling of Mary Quant and the architectural hairstyles of Vidal Sassoon.
Unity of time and space was the central theme of the collection, which juxtaposed the “soft architecture of the female form with strong shapes to create space and perspective, reflecting the revolutionary period that women experienced and the sense of empowerment that ensued and is still embodied in women today.”
The pieces themselves reflect the style of the 1960s — a colour palette of black, white and nude was used to create beautiful pieces featuring geometric patterns, structured tailoring and references to the optical art movement that gained popularity in the period. Garvida adds his own signature touch of luxury and texture, a perfect combination that makes the collection both wearable and suitably high fashion.
Models with slicked-back hair, dramatic eye make-up and large quirky jewellery completed the looks. All in all, an impressive collection!
