LFW – Fred Butler S/S 2013 collection
Think Fred Butler? Well, think Gold. The University of Brighton graduate who has a portfolio of work for the likes of Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj showcased her new collection in the Portico show space at Somerset house to much anticipate from the audience. Her collection took the form of a completely unique take on a futurist summer. Titled, “A Bee in My Bonnet, With A Honey Hair Comb”, models stood and displayed a unique array of patchwork hexagons and solidly layered gold embroidery on top of latex and rubber undergarments. Taking a step away from previous collections, Fred has managed to create an edgy sport look with feminine definition.
Luggage made an appearance in the presentation and took the “bee” theme with it, with bumblebee backpacks, bumbags and money purses all dazzling with gold charm. Caps were also key to the collection, with huge plaited pigtails trailing down the models’ backs and wrapping into place guard-style hats. Medallion-style chains hung from waistlines displaying daisies that broke up the intensity of the metallics and gave an interesting spring feel. Headphones, huge earrings and bangles managed to follow the honeycomb theme in true bespoke style.
Collaborating alongside Rosy Nicholas for footwear, incredible art-deco wedges illustrated the interior structure of a beehive for the ultimate finishing touch.
