LFW – Christian Blanken S/S 2013 collection
Christian Blanken managed to cause a stir amongst the crowds yesterday at Somerset House when he showcased his new Spring/Summer 2013 womenswear collection. Hosting two salon shows in the Portico show space and with designer Lee Miller in tow, guests were raving about what was about to follow.
As a blank canvas for the collection to be displayed, models appeared with huge funnel collars that stood up to mask the lower half of their faces. Monochromes were first with black and white sporty garments taking turns to be showcased. Leather was key in the collection with panels of the material being featured in all the right places. Huge draping arms made jersey pieces into luxurious garments and allowed Blanken to reinforce his signature sportswear look.
Suedes, cotton cashmeres and snakeskin leathers added to the lavishness of double-breasted coats, cigarette cut trousers and box shaped dresses. Magentas yellows and oranges broke the minimalistic palette, bringing with it more luxe athletic garments. Simplicity was key, but the shape and materials used by Christian brought all the garments to life in a unique way.
Pocketed draping maxi dresses and an exciting mix of metallic coats drew the show to a close. Excitement for this collection was evident from leaving guests, making it clear that this indulgent take on everyday wear is what everyone wants next season.
