PFW – Christophe Guillarmé S/S 2013 collection
When looking at a picture of Christophe Guillarmé, one will see a slender man with a mane of long blonde hair, a striking outfit and a fierce pose. Considering this, we were expecting an over-the-top runway show dripping with drama and opulence. That was precisely what Guillarmé created for his spring/summer 2013 collection.
Guillarmé says of his newest collection, “I abandoned my aggressive muses to focus on a tender heroine who makes her debut wearing translucent dresses.” Each “tender heroine” entered the stage in muted colours of white, pink and champagne. Sequins, feathers and gold embroidery were just some of the things Guillarmé added to enliven the fabric’s subtle colours.
An ivory silk maxi dress complete with various coloured beads and feathers, along with a mermaid style tulle gown fully embroidered with gold sequins were the praiseworthy pieces of the show.
However, the spell of eye-catching pieces was occasionally interrupted with ill-fitting dresses that looked almost as gaudy and cheap as the venue. With more attention to tailoring as well as different fabric choices, this could have been avoided.
Guillarmé has succeeded in making a bold statement with his distinctive dresses. The ultra-feminine silhouettes, soft feathers and glistening sequins exude total romanticism. For the girl that loves a fairy tale: Christophe Guillarmé is your prince charming.
