PFW – BAAM Argentina S/S 2013 show
Everyone was dressed in his or her absolute finest at the BAAM Argentina show. The show was in cooperation with Argentina Fashion Week and featured four up-and-coming Latin designers: Eamoda Nicolas Luzuriaga, Benito Fernandez, Marcelo Senra, and Jorge Ibañez.
The show began dramatically with a long Latin dance with six dancers. Then the lights flickered and the show began. Luzuriaga’s collection’s garments were made with a heavy yarn-like material, but were balanced out with wide cut-outs around the midriff. Every colour imaginable was used in this collection. The bright colour choices were admirable, but the collection as a whole was not cohesive.
Fernandez’s collection was futuristic and cool. Using mostly black and white fabrics, metallic features were added in order to give the garments a modern effect. One dress in particular was a black gown featuring long gold pieces that hung down to the knees.
Senra’s bold choices were extremely successful. He chose a palette of bright colours and combined them with sequins and colourful fringes. He also added headpieces to accent the garments.
The best was most definitely saved for last. Jorge Ibañez’s sophisticated collection was the star of the show. Reminiscent of the Oscar de la Renta aesthetic, Ibañez stuck to the most glamorous fabrics: an endless array of silk, taffeta, and chiffon. Blues transitioned into soft pinks, prints, and then lastly a gorgeous red gown.
From looking around at the crowd, it was apparent that these people all took extreme pride in their country. Last night’s collections certainly did Argentina proud.
