Susannah Lovis and Daniel Blake combine fashion and jewellery for the Absolutely red carpet catwalk show
Last night, Burlington Arcade in Mayfair became the stunning backdrop for a fascinating showcase of work by Susannah Lovis and Daniel Blake. Blake, who specialises in creating timeless womenswear, and Lovis who creates beautiful antique style jewellery, came together to create a unique red carpet catwalk show for Absolutely magazine.
The night began with a champagne reception, allowing guests to mingle in the elegant surroundings of Jimmy Choo and other higher end boutiques. With a rather later than expected start, the show was introduced by Susannah and her team, giving thanks to all of the sponsors and supporters involved in the event.
There was a huge sense of fun filling the atmosphere on arrival of the first model. Mature, older women had been chosen to display the collection, demonstrating a sheer sense of pride to the collaboration. Models wearing black shorts and halter necks brought a range of brooches, pearls and chokers. Black sunglasses were also worn to ensure the focus was just on Susannah’s divine collection.
A move into Daniel’s work brought with it a khaki coloured oversized coat with leather shoulder pads, and might we add one of our favourites in the collection. Beautiful shades of plum appeared in dresses and jeans and fringed brogues by Hudson gave a very up-to-date touch to outfits. Leather gloves in wintery colours were teamed with fur collar accessories and clutch bags for a sophisticated, seasonal look.
Next, we saw Prince of Wales checks teamed with autumnal yellows and a beautiful array of velvet garments. Models beamed with smiles as they walked down the carpet runway, showing they loved the collection just as much as the crowd. Guests were clapping each model and cheering older members on the catwalk, which added to a somewhat inspirational atmosphere.
A series of tux dresses and jumpsuits in different colours continued to make the collection feel classy and chic. The fuchsia coloured Ophelia Dress also made a lasting impression with its drape twist front and effortless style.
A walk-through of models at the end brought with it an overriding sense of achievement from everyone involved. Daniel himself ran up and down the catwalk with model Sophie Anderton and concluded with a speech which relayed his pride for the event. The evening was a complete success bringing with it not only a faultless AW collection, but also a reminder that fashion is accessible to absolutely everyone.
