Mixed Chicks: Curls in the City launch party
Thursday night at The Fruitbox in Piccadilly Institute came alive with American spirit as the girls from Mixed Chicks – a unique hair product company – graced London with their charm and interesting line of hair care techniques.
Sex and the City was the theme of the evening, with Bellinis and Cosmopolitans being served as the tipple of choice. Cupcake canapés gave an added girly touch as guests waited for the presentation to begin.
A presentation to the background of the brand enlightened guests to a scene from Sex in the City, where the girls discuss curly hair. Inspired by the popular TV programme, Kim Etheridge and Wendi Levy launched the brand in USA in 2004, when they found a personal need for curly hair products. When shopping for hair care, the girls found that there was a definitive gap between having urban hair and “normal” hair, with no market for hair that was in between these two groups.
In creating the Mixed Chicks brand, the girls have managed to create a community for everyone who wants to manage their curly locks. The likes of Halle Berry have boasted about the product and the difference it has made to their hair, making the brand one reliable and trustworthy to those who have already tried the urban products on the market.
By launching Mixed Chicks in the UK, the girls want to take their products further, by integrating multicultural ethics further into their name. With England having one of the fastest growing mixed race populations in the world, the products aim to bring everyone together and unite girls who struggle with their curls.
A further talk from the team allowed models to demonstrate the simplicity of using the products on different types of curls, and exactly why they have found such a valuable gap in the market.
Kim and Wendi want people to ask about hair rather than race, so there is no segregation between cultures when it comes to locks; whether that be loose wave manes or huge bushy afros! The Mixed Chicks’ products start from £11.95 for shampoo and £10.95 for conditioner, so if you want to find your natural curl pattern, this is the answer to all of your problems.
