Rachel Elbaz: French couture that’s like a dream
This October has brought us the new, stunning AW12 collection and body lotion launch by couture designer, Rachel Elbaz. Set in The Millennium Hotel, Knightsbridge, Rachel’s show was dedicated to her loyal clients and royal supporters including HRH Katarina of Yugoslavia – a cousin of Prince Charles – and even Big Brother finalist Sara McLean who modelled on the catwalk.
The array of people did not distract away from the magnificent dresses on display. Like a beautiful story, the show comprised of three collections. The Daywear collection set the tone for the sort of luxurious materials used to make one of Rachel Elbaz’s outfits. Soft and light wools and fur add extra femininity to the well-tailored suits and woollen dresses. This collection manages to maintain a ladylike charm through its light palette of creams and deep pinks.
The Cocktail Hour collection centred itself around the outfit created to celebrate the release of the re-make film Anna Karenina, featuring the remarkable outfit of an ankle length wool skirt, mixed with complementing lace and a caramel fur jacket to finish.
The finale to the show, her Red Carpet collection, was the perfect reminder that Rachel Elbaz is famously known for her elegant gowns that ooze glamour. Models waltzed down the catwalk like a beautiful dream. Silk chiffon appeared from every direction, in weightless creams and rose-tinted shades. Sharp understated black and white gowns also appeared to illustrate just how sophisticated and timeless they can be on the red carpet.
This was also the launch for the body lotion, Dream, which matches the existing perfume by Rachel Elbaz. This French-made floral and fruity scent is perfect for getting through the cold winter.
