Fall in love with wood at bRainbow
For lovers of all things random and quirky, this label is for you. bRainbow creates pieces of jewellery and accessories in the form of sci-fi robots, old school TV sets and flying squirrels.
bRainbow comes from the idea that a rainbow comes after rain and makes people smile. A “bRain” represents ideas, thinking and imagination and bRainbow combines these elements to create their unique pieces. Their jewellery is so unique, as it’s made from a mixture of wood and acrylic. It’s not every day you wear a piece of jewellery that is made from wood!
Graphic designer/senior art director Orrr and collaborator Akiko created the label. Their favourite piece from the jewellery collection is Record Player. They created the piece without using any glue and it locks together just like Lego. You can scratch and spin the record too.
The pair draw inspiration from 80s retro and contemporary designs. For their latest collection, music, musical instruments and quotes inspired Orrr and Akiko. The pair said: “We know everyone loves music and music never dies. Also, quotes inspire us a lot these days…quotes that support the concept of its product.”
When asked if they’ve got inspiration for the next collection, they responded: “It’s still going to be something quirky, old school and retro but the topic might be changed. We just got a letterpress machine from the USA and it’s from the 60s. It’s so beautiful and we can’t stop looking at him…we named him ‘GAIJIN’ by the way. He inspires us a lot and we try to combine letterpress techniques and our style to produce something new and different.” No doubt we will see another quirky collection from these two in the near future!
bRainbow haven’t collaborated with any other designers as yet. However, it looks like it may be on the cards. There are many designers they want to collaborate with. They like to go to designers markets, exhibitions, Etsy, etc. where they see loads of talented artwork. Their friends create lots of amazing work as well. A collaboration is something that bRainbow clearly wants to do, but they are waiting to finalise things first.
bRainbow is available from Hannah Zakari and Etsy.com. For more information, check out bRainbow’s website here.
