Susanna Liso’s A/W 2012-13 collection for Le Tartarughe
Italian fashion designer Susanna Liso has presented her AW12-13 collection for Le Tartarughe fine knitwear boutique in Rome, through a fashion film by Milo Adami and an advertising campaign signed by Severine Quyeras entitled Clouds, and starring the Italian actress Chiara Nicola.
Inspired by the 1967 short film by Pier Paolo Pasolini, in which the protagonists Totò and Ninetto Davoli wondered what the clouds were, Clouds alludes to the heart-breaking beauty of creation as an escape from contaminated reality; it is a modern version of a fairytale.
Set in a forest at the edge of a small pool of water, illuminated by a light autumn sun, it is the story of a young woman aware of the ugliness of the modern world, perhaps on the run, but able to raise her eyes to heaven and find hope in the invisible power of nature.
As the sole survivor of an omnivorous civilisation, she wanders through a peaceful landscape with a giant teddy bear – a childhood playmate and symbol of a purity of spirit.
As clouds in the sky give her the key to salvation, so the clothes offer her freedom and vitality.
Susanna Liso takes her palette from a wide range of autumnal colours: ocher, red, rust, brick, brown, antique pink, dark green and black, to create a patchwork of rare elegance and craftsmanship.
It’s in the shapes that the real genius and novelty of the collection lies: bag dresses worn as jumpers, cinched in at the waist by brown and gold belts; screwed anoraks to combine with tweed and two-toned pants; wool bodices to wear over dresses and long skirts with deep splits. Clothes wrap the female body without ever fully showing it.
Susanna Liso nicely mixes colours and shapes, simplicity and elegance, femininity and freedom of movement, with a result that meets the taste of a dynamic, feminine and romantic modern woman.
