Cosmik Debris: reworking vintage clothing

This summer saw groups of young girls customise their vintage Levi shorts, either by studding them or dying them. That’s where Cosmik Debris saw a gap in the market and launched a “reworked vintage” part of their website. Kessiah says she began customising her own clothes “ages ago” as it’s “effortlessly cool and adds an edge to any outfit” and it wasn’t long before the likes of Topshop and Miss Selfridge agreed and took note. Cosmik Debris re-work all kinds of denims from shorts to jackets and shirts, fringing, fraying, dying and studding them to create entirely new garments.

Tie dye is one of those trends that is either really big and it’s either everywhere, or nowhere. But Kessiah caught it just before it got big and started tie dying denim. “Everyone was dip-dying denim, but no-one was tie dying it”. Henry Holland showcased his take on the tie dye trend during Fashion Week and received rave reviews. Now we can have our very own HOH-inspired denim, handmade by Cosmik Debris at a reasonable price.

Kessiah says that once she started wearing her customised shorts she had more and more people asking where she had bought them. Initially, she set up a Tumblr account to post images of her re-works, but after the demand, Kessiah set up a Facebook page which allowed her to sell her products to a wider audience. A few weeks ago saw the launch of the Cosmik Debris website which not only sells “reworked clothes” but also a collection of “hand-picked vintage” clothes.

Recently, the Cosmik Debris brand began working on new designs that move slightly away from the dying and studding area and are more reminiscent of the 90s, adding patches and embellishments onto denims – patches including “peace”, “ying yang” and holographic details! If you want to wear something that will get you noticed and make you stand out from the crowd, then Cosmik Debris is the brand for you.

Kessiah also let us in on a little secret… “We are working on our very own clothing line as well at the moment” – which we are just so excited about!
