Courtney Love’s new clothing line is revealed
After what seems like years in the making, Courtney Love has revealed pieces of her new clothing collection Never the bride via Twitter. Renowned for being the Hole frontwoman, her rock persona and marriage to Kurt Cobain, Love has entered the world of celebrity clothing lines.
The collection consists of one-off vintage reworked pieces. Deeply imbedded with beads, trim, lace and satin, the clothes are very intricately detailed. Pieces are reminiscent of Victorian and Edwardian eras, whilst still stemming from Love’s grungy signature look.
Some of these unique vintage treasures were collected by Love in the early 80s, when she worked at Paramount pictures in the wardrobe department. Courtney was apparently meant to get rid of the moulding clothes on set, but instead kept them and reused or reworked them into her collection years later. She exclaimed that three of these dresses were revamped to go into one piece alone!
The pieces are modelled by fiery rainbow-haired Chloe Norgaard, who is shown draped across furniture in a luxurious apartment. These images show the ethereal and romanticism qualities of the collection and really bring it to life. Chloe is shown wearing a lace ruffled dress, with peacock feather sash whilst wearing metallic blue doc martens and stockings. This way of combining vintage and grunge is aesthetically so very Courtney. “This is the stuff that I would wear if I was young enough to not look like Bette Davis in ‘Whatever Happened After Baby Jane?’ ” quoted Love on her collection.
Other garments include a black chiffon, beaded dress with open back and lace crop top with tassels and sequins. Despite the edgy look to the pieces, they have been given titles such as, Tinkerbell or Fairy peacock dress. Her twist on the pieces became more apparent when she stated: “In the hem of all the dresses there’s a ruby and it says c***.” This could be a reason that Never the bride has been prone to controversy since the reveal, and has gotten mixed reviews on Twitter and other social networking sites.
We think Love has shown her knowledge of fashion and made it clear she knows what she is doing through her collection. It shows how many years of vintage and antique collecting really pays off. This gives us an excuse to keep hoarding!
We welcome Courtney Love into the fashion industry, but will everyone else?
