Become a Thriftette: Our answer to affordable vintage

Having begun as a market stall in 2011, Thriftette has managed to open its first shop in under a year! A huge success for a business that has been around for such a short space of time. So what’s the appeal of Thriftette? Vintage, reworked and quirky are the three words that could help to sum up this question. 

Based in Manchester, a city brimming with style and culture, are the founders of Thriftette: Lucie Benjamin and Grace Avery. Both being lovers of all things vintage and having studied the fashion industry, it was inevitable that the duo would create something on-trend and affordable. Created for fashion-forward girls, everything is hand-picked and broadly sourced to find unique pieces that are truly one-of-a-kind. 

The “thriftettes”, as they call themselves, are keen on self-expression. They think of their customer as individual and stylish, a woman with the ability to pull off any old jumble sale they put on themselves. 

The pieces have a definite grunge theme, with an overall 90s vibe. From skater skirts to t-shirts with skeletal hand prints, you can easily find an item to fit the gothic trend that has been circulating this year. 

Their green vintage jacket is a must-have for this season. Easy to put on over your outfit, the colour is adaptable to many tones and is perfect to wear before the winter fully kicks in. It’s a bargain at £30. 

The velvet skater skirt comes in navy, black and red and is high-waisted (always a plus). Again it is easily blended and will be complementary to the majority of items in your wardrobe. At £18 you could even purchase all three shades.
