Jonathan Liang S/S 2013 collection: A floral-techno fairytale
During the last Future Fashion Now Show in Paris, Malaysian rising fashion star Jonathan Liang got everyone’s attention with his SS13 collection titled Elixirs, inspired by Anthony Goic’s pictures.
Ruffles Design Institute graduate and winner of the Most Promising Designer of 2009 award at the famed Fashion Week in Kuala Lumpur, Jonathan Liang began his journey in the fashion world by moving to Paris.
His participation in the Prêt à Porter Competition earned him an invaluable internship at the Carnet de Mode French couture house.
As if that’s not enough, after only one season of his own systematically sold-out work, London Fashion Week invited Jonathan to sit out in their A-fashion section – the new independent talent’s showcase – to present their products to the big names of the press, buyers, industry experts and customers.
It was a very quick and successful merit of the correctness of its vision, halfway between aesthetics and commercialism, and of the high quality of Italian and Japanese fabrics.
The SS13 collection is an incredible mix of eye-catching floral prints and modern neon accents and a magistral overlap of fabrics and weights in all kind of shapes. Feminine and sporty, sexy and childish, minimalist and colourful, simple and detailed, the collection is a floral-techno fairytale.
Pleated skirts, fluorescent hems and 3D flower appliqués are the base of each outfit, on which are grafted other minor but effective details: a zip, a cut, a pocket, a contrast collar.
There’s an extremely delightful botanical explosion over flirty, flouncy skirts in organza that finds composure in tailored shirts and blouses with a masculine cut, or in suits played down with transparencies.
Jonathan Liang offers the modern woman the chance to express her personality in style!
