Disney and Chopard: another jewel to complete Harrods’ Christmas window
First there were the Disney Princess dresses, and then Harrods decided to surprise us with much more: sparkling, jaw-dropping jewels. Legendary jeweller Chopard has collaborated with iconic London store Harrods, to produce a Haute Joaillerie line, in continuation with their Walt Disney Princess theme.
Ariel, Belle and Cinderella are just some of the princesses featured in this ten-piece collection, consisting of a selection of bracelets, necklaces, earrings and hairpieces.
Chopard is no stranger to the film world, considering they are prominent partners of The Cannes Film Festival. Caroline Scheufele, Co-President and Artistic Director of Chopard, announced that the Disney characters have been a source of inspiration long before this collaboration: “The world of Walt Disney has often been an inspiration for a variety of Chopard [pieces]. I am very happy to have been given the opportunity to design the famous Princesses’ pieces of jewellery.”
The unveiling of the collection ties in perfectly with Harrods’ Christmas 2012 window displays, which feature dresses by top designers including Oscar de la Renta, Versace and Elie Saab.
When designing Princess Tiana’s necklace, the Chopard team thought of the floating flowers on which Tiana and her prince floated upon in The Princess and the Frog. To represent this image, briolette-cut paraibas tourmalines, tsavorites, emeralds and pearls were used, creating a fairytale-like experience.
You think Snow White and you have to think of the poisoned red apple that her evil stepmother gave her to eat. Crafted from round-cut rubies for the flesh, the stalk is made up of emeralds, tsavourites and brown diamonds. Look inside the ring and you can see little cut-out apple motifs ‒ a magnificent design.
For Mulan, Chopard created this floral brooch with a rubellite cabochon at the centre ‒ with rubies, rubellites, pink sapphires, spinels and tourmalines on the petals. Purple is considered a royal colour, especially for people seeking spiritual fulfilment. It is a colour often associated with a brave leader.
This white-gold necklace was inspired by Belle’s iconic, layered, yellow dress. Containing 69-carat tanzanites, rounded blue sapphires, amethysts, pink sapphires and diamonds, this necklace mirrors the frills on Belle’s dress. Only the best for Princess Belle.
Chopard decided Cinderella’s piece must be something exquisite yet simple. Featuring a singular flower with pearl and tear-drop aquamarine detail, these earrings complement the fairytale of all fairytales. They are a stunning pair of earrings to catch anyone’s attention.
The one thing we all connect Rapunzel with, is her hair. Entirely paved with diamonds and set in rose-gold, this necklace is symbolic of her long beautiful blonde locks.
In comparison, Sleeping Beauty’s earrings are far more colourful. Comprising of two separate designs, these earrings consist of emeralds, tsavorites, amethysts and paraibas tourmalines on one, while pink and yellow sapphires and rubies distinguish the other side.
If you think these photos are breathtaking, imagine what it looks like live. The Chopard Haute Joaillerie collection is now available exclusively in Harrods’ Fine Jewellery Room until the end of December.
