How to dazzle at the office Christmas party this year
Office Christmas parties can, for some, bring a shudder of horror, as a night of small talk with people you spend all year avoiding is imminent. Yet it also might be your chance to speak with that cute guy that you only see when passing through the office, but always blush if his eyes meet yours. After a year of wearing a smart but limited wardrobe to work, finally Christmas is here bringing with it your one chance to shine. If you’re struggling to find that perfect outfit, fear not! The Upcoming has some top tips on how to dazzle your colleagues with your style and not your Adèle karaoke impressions.
The glamorous dress
Colour, embellishment and sparkle – dresses have it all this Christmas, so why not make the most of the opportunity to be truly gluttonous with glamour. More is more and after all, it is the party season of the year – if not the party of the year. If you aren’t feeling excessive but still not the wallflower type, then ditch the dark colours and try something colourful or bold in print. Peplum shapes and all-over-sequin dresses are favourites for Christmas.
Dress-phobic?
Slick leather and gleaming sequin trousers offer a modish alternative to dresses this season. Style them up with sheer blouses, or contrasting prints with patterned trousers if you’re feeling brave. However, if you’re after something a little simpler, jumpsuits are ideal. Channelling classic 70s style in a very modern way, the one-piece can be dressed up or down and is so easy to wear; just add heels for instant glamour.
The luxe jacket
There’s little more damaging to an outstanding outfit than covering it up with a winter coat that just doesn’t match. Whether your look is already something special or needs an added lift, a luxurious jacket with beading, baroque detail or a little sparkle will do the trick. Also, these beauties look great dressed down with flats and jeans, so why not add one to your wardrobe.
Shoes that go the distance
If nothing else, make sure your shoes dazzle this Christmas. The embellishment trend hasn’t forgotten footwear giving us stilettos, chunky platforms and wedge heels covered in jewels, beads and pearls. Adding an extra sparkle to Christmas are the fabulous glitter-covered heels in cool metallic tones and classic black.
However, if you’re not one for tottering in heels, this season the smoking slipper is super-stylish and looks great teamed with a narrow trouser.
Use your head
Headbands may remind you of the 90s – velvet bows aplenty – but they are back in fashion. Alice bands with jewel embellishment or feather detail bring the style bang up to date. It doesn’t just end there either. Barrettes are coined as the next big thing, so why not get ahead of the trend and add one to your party look.
