Sofitel So SPA: a relaxation haven
When we were offered to spend the afternoon receiving a special beauty treatment, we couldn’t possibly pass up the opportunity to be properly pampered. Situated in the heart of London, just off Regent Street, is the grand five-star Sofitel St James Hotel: a beautiful listed building that also plays host to the So SPA.
Walking through the entrance to the spa you are immediately struck with a floral and spiced aroma, combined with ambient sounds that create a welcoming and calming atmosphere. Dispersed over three floors, the spa boasts high ceilings, beams of light and incredible contemporary décor, which mixed with the original features of the building work to create something very unique. The colour palette of ochre and pink combined with the oak staircase and pavilion, make the mood of the space very tranquil. It is hard to believe there is a bustling city just outside.
Having been greeted with herbal tea, the staff is truly on hand to help with your every need. A request form was given before the treatment to help gain the best experience possible from the spa. From the room temperature, lighting pattern, music and fragrances, each can be tailored to perfectly suit you.
The treatment chosen was a 60-minute facial, and a bathrobe, slippers and towel were provided to add that little bit of extra comfort. So SPA uses two brands of French cosmetic products for their treatments. The first, Cinq Mondes, is an eco-friendly brand that specialises in natural products, whereas Carita has excellent anti-ageing products to rejuvenate skin. The person providing the treatment can decipher which products are necessary for use on your skin, whether it is sensitive, dry or oily.
The treatment rooms are on the first floor, very intricately designed with a gold leaf pattern and a reclining massage bed. The treatment itself was just amazing; we came out feeling relaxed, revitalised and refreshed. The blend of Cinq Mondes products, toner and hot towels made for a face full of freshness. The massage therapist made sure that everything was to our liking and was extremely polite and professional.
The relaxation room is offered as a place to unwind after a treatment. Here you can enjoy fruit or herbal tea and delicious macaroons. Headphones and magazines are also provided so you can put your feet up and continue the pampering process. There is also a tea bar and retail boutique downstairs for the opportunity to socialise with other clients and staff. Showers and hair straighteners are on offer in the changing rooms, so you can look as good as you feel when you leave. There seems to be no end to the luxuries at hand at So SPA.
Other treatments on the menu include aromatic baths, hot stone rolling, oriental massage and Martini and manicure. They range from 30 to 150 minutes long and would be a perfect way to relax in this busy season.
