Cambridge Satchel Company opens its very first pop-up shop in Covent Garden
Think satchel? Well, think Cambridge Satchel Company. Adored by fashionistas and bloggers all over the world, this somewhat accidental brand has took the fashion world by storm, by transforming a traditional accessory into the ultimate must-have item.
Started back in 2008 by mother and daughter duo, Freda Thomas and Julie Dean, the pair began by making a modern take on the classic schoolbag from their kitchen. Making just three a week soon turned into making thousands, as word caught on about their modern take on traditional designs. Their work can now be seen on the likes of Alexa Chung and Zooey Deschanel, turning their label into one styled by the fashion elite.
Saturday morning became a benchmark in the company story with the very first pop-up store opening in Covent Garden. With paint from the family kitchen neutrally blanketing the canvas walls of the store, brightly coloured satchels can be found perfectly placed upon shelving across the walls for the public’s buying pleasure.
Speaking to Freda herself, she commented on how opening the shop allows customers to have a look at the satchels for themselves. When looking at the colours online, the brightness of your computer may taint how the bags look and therefore the shop gives a more personal approach to buying this “in demand” product.
A vast array of colours and styles are available to buy in the store, including bags from The Fluro collection that we absolutely adore.
The pop-up is open from 8th December throughout the Christmas period for you to find the perfect Christmas present. An exciting standalone store will be opening in the New Year, just in time for London Fashion Week in February.
