J W Anderson meets Versace Versus
With great fanfare, we introduce to you some extremely exciting news from the Versace headquarters. The Italian label has announced that the innovative designer J W Anderson is to create a captivating collection for its sister label Versus. Under the new fashion dictatorship of Donatella Versace, this exclusive collection will be one of the first collaborations to come to life under the new reign. What’s more is that it isn’t long until our anxious eyes get to view the collection of fashion art: the ready-to-wear pieces will be revealed in an event in New York in spring 2013!
Unfortunately, images of the collection are yet to be released, but as we say, more of a surprise is on its way. The luxurious line will include chic clothing and audacious accessories; items that will no doubt shout out a statement. Anderson states that a 1996 Versace campaign, shot by Bruce Weber, was an important aspect towards his inspiration. He states that Versus is “all about the relationship between a boy and a boy, and girl and a girl, a boy and a boy. Purity.” His collection is one that resembles freedom, lust and passion; stances that the fashion industry stand for in this arguably oppressing world.
The designs are said to be “hip” and “left-field”, a reflection of the Aztec, asymmetric modern styles. These patterns and tailoring are representative of the freedom of the mind and the idea behind fashion having no limits. In his previous Topshop collection, Anderson created the anchor logo image, which was imprinted on items such as bags and umbrellas, iPhone cases and notepads. These eclectic items emphasised the designer’s youthfulness and he wanted to incorporate this idea of “fun and young” into his new, ready-to-wear collection for Versus.
In a statement, Donatella has said how she keeps “a close eye on young talent, and [have been] impressed by Jonathan’s work over the last couple of years.” She then goes on to express how “Versus is all about fun, change, and digital. I can’t wait to present this collaboration!” And we cannot wait to see it! Luckily for us internet shopping addicts, the collection will be sold online here, as well as in elite department stores.
