Arsenal thrash Magpies at Emirates as Walcott gets his hat-trick
Arsenal had to battle hard to beat Newcastle in a 7-3 thriller. It took three goals from Theo Walcott and a brace from substitute Giroud to give all three points to the home side.
Both sides played an attacking football from the kick-off but it was Arsenal that got the opener with Theo Walcott getting at the end of Podolski’s pass to make it 1-0.
Despite going a goal down within 20 minutes, Newcastle kept their composure and dominated possession in first half. With two minutes left before the half-time whistle, the visitors’ hard work paid off, when Demba Ba’s freekick deflected off Wilshere and gave Magpies a well-deserved equaliser.
In the second half, the Gunners came out the strongest side and 50 minutes in, Oxlade-Chamberlain put the home side ahead once again, this time with a hard hit low effort that Tim Krul couldn’t keep out.
Arsenal was getting too relaxed and paid the price just nine minutes after their goal, when Newcastle found a way to equalise again. Marveaux was at the right place at the right time to stun the home side with a fine finish of Obertan’s delivery.
The next ten minutes saw one more goals from each side making the score line 3-3. First Podolski’s header gave the home crowd something to cheer about, but soon got silenced with Ba getting his brace.
Unfortunately for the travelling fans, the last quarter of the match was all Arsenal’s show. Walcott put Arsene Wenger’s side 4-3 up and ten minutes later provided the essential pass to Giroud to extend their lead. The substitute made the most of his time on the pitch to display a brilliant performance and grabbed Arsenal’s sixth goal.
Walcott had the last word of the match by adding another one to his tally and lifting the ball above Krul to end a fantastic match at the Emirates.
