Plastic Bat: when jewellery comes out to play
Jewellery made from Lego, Barbie and other nostalgic toys are becoming increasingly popular. Plastic Bat makes jewellery that truly reminds you of your childhood.
Plastic Bat was created by Tracy Romaszkiewicz in 2003; she started the business as a way of helping to fund university life. She sold jewellery made from Lego and other toys on eBay, but after graduating from Gray’s School of Art with a Ba (hons) in Fine Art she decided to keep the business going. It has now developed into a successful website and Tracy uses laser cut acrylic and wood to create her pieces. The ethos of Plastic Bat is fun and the jewellery is definitely that.
A lot of the pieces are quite simple but are bold and effective. These sweetheart earrings are cute and would be a great present for a teenager. Maybe you’ll prefer this ice cream necklace as it will remind you of the summer holidays at the seaside or the ice cream man coming down your road.
Tracy’s primary source of inspiration is nostalgia, everything she designs is close to her heart in some way or another and she likes to think that her work has sparked happy memories in others too. When you’re wearing a Las Vegas necklace or a cupcake brooch it’s bound to bring back fond memories.
The new year is bound to bring exciting things for Plastic Bat and it will be interesting to see what they have to offer in 2013. Head to the website to check out the latest offerings from Tracy here.
