London Collections: Men – Oliver Spencer A/W’13
Oliver Spencer founded his label in 2002 with the intention of imitating his own wardrobe and producing clothes that were both classic yet street-ready, and all with expert craftsmanship. Born out of London, the brand is one that is truly British and is supported by the likes of The Rolling Stones and Paul Weller.
During day two of the London Collections: Men, The Upcoming was invited to Location House on New Oxford Street to see the designer’s AW13 collection where we enjoyed a fantastic runway show in the vast industrial surroundings.
A warm and earthy colour palette brought the collection together with a mix of deep rust, olive and charcoal shades, intersected with bright cobalt and tangerine which are sure to be the colours we will be seeing for the rest of the autumn/winter season. Texture played a big part within the show and the mixing of tweed, wool and shearling gave a tactile and playful air to the outfits, whilst remaining incredibly smart and perfectly tailored.
Spencer lists some of his inspirations as hunting and the military, and takes ideas from traditional Americana and Japan, as well as using a long history of traditional British tailoring and “old-school construction”, resulting in a distinctive and relevant style that is bound to be on the top of every man’s wish list for this coming year.
