Finchittida Finch pop-up shop launch at Boxpark Mall in Shoreditch

Last Sunday, The Upcoming was invited to attend accessory and jewellery brand Finchittida Finch’s launch of their pop-up shop in the uber-cool Boxpark Mall on Bethnal Green road in Shoreditch, London.

Finchittida Finch consists of identical twin design duo Lisa and Tida Finch. Their debut collection Monozygotic Talismans is inspired by their English and Lao heritage and certainly has a story to tell. Intricate and ornate pieces that range from earrings to scene-stealing necklaces are laser-cut from black, gold and silver-mirrored acrylic. The collection – which we completely fell in love with – manages to be both delicate and bold at the same time.

Finchittida Finch was the lucky and super talented runners-up in the “Free Box Park” competition run by Boxpark and We Are Pop-Up. Their prize was a prestigious space at the Boxpark Mall – the UK’s first pop-up mall – until 17^th February 2013. This is an indication of a great future for these sisters who have both only graduated within the last year.

There was a very cool Laotian vibe at the launch with a set of soulful pop music performed live by the twin’s cousin Anouck, and more music later from singer Phousa. The brand is not currently available in any stores but the sisters are planning to do more pop-up shops all over London and, with their new website up and running by the end of this week, soon everyone will be able to get their hands on these exotic treasures.

We spoke to Lisa and Tida to find out what they had in store for 2013 and were pleased to hear they “Plan to take the world by storm” and “Put Laos on the map”. When we asked which celebrities they would most like to see wearing their designs, they told us Rhianna, Rita Ora and M.I.A all rate pretty highly – but the celeb world has already taken note of this quirky brand with R&B singer Ashanti wearing one of their necklaces only weeks after it was debuted in Tida’s graduate collection at Chelsea College of Art and Design!

However there is a more serious side to the twins and they hope that in the future they can raise awareness about Laos and some of the issues the people there face, such as the daily threat of millions of landmines left over from the Vietnam War. Fincittida Finch are extremely proud of their heritage and this collection, which has taken inspiration from the architecture and the Buddhist Temples of Laos combined with a very English eccentricity, makes that perfectly clear.
