Pretty little things and vintage-inspired jewellery at Mecino
Mecino is a little haven of hidden treasures and nostalgia-inspired jewellery. As a little girl, owner Michelle loved hunting through market stalls to find gems and charms in various forms. “I remember my first trinket charms bracelet in the late 80s”, she says, “finding it at a school fete and putting it away with other little delights in my ballerina musical jewellery box.” Her aim with Mecino is to recreate her joy in finding a special piece, and hopes customers will treasure her designs in much the same way.
The brand carries a sense of wistfulness and innocence in its collection of necklaces, earrings, bracelets and brooches. Many pieces within the Mecino range are a one-off or a limited selection, as each is carefully handmade by Michelle. “I create new pieces every day and new items are constantly being listed, as I am always sourcing new treasures and coming up with new ideas. I love to make things.”
Inspired by antiques and the past, Michelle likes to mix and match elements of her designs. Michelle explains: “It is my love for childhood innocence and past memories that has inspired me to create Mecino. Each piece is a tiny glimpse, an insight into my life. It is my voice – whether it is loud and bold or delicate and sweet.”
Combinations of colour, various eras and materials make each piece special and interesting. The range is a mixture of Alice in Wonderland, afternoon tea in a summer garden and adventures in magical destinations.
