The National Fish and Chip Awards 2013 winners

The National Fish and Chip Awards 2013 winners

Famous faces of the fish and chip community gathered at the Lancaster Hotel last night for their annual awards ceremony. Marking the culmination of yet another successful year, the awards, which were hosted by comedian Rory Bremner, recognise the talent of Britain’s most traditional culinary industry.

With over 100 awards, including Good Catch, Best Multiple Foodservice Outlet Serving Fish and Chips and Young Fish Frier of the Year, restaurant and takeaway owners from all over Britain were honoured. The most prestigious award of the evening, the national winner 2013, went to Calum Richardson of The Bay, Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire.

The Independent Fish and Chip Restaurant of the Year was awarded to Rockfish Seafood & Chips of Dartmouth, Devon.

Bremner, whose fish and chip puns, such as “living the bream”, “what a load of pollocks” and “don’t get too battered” kept the audience thoroughly entertained, also paid tribute to the hard workers, who make the industry what it is: “It’s one of our most distinctive and one of our greatest national institutions…and you guys are the ones that, day in day out, put it on the plate and put it on the map, so thank you very much, all of you, for that.”
