Designer profile: Ann Yee
Originally from South Lyon, Michigan, Ann Yee is now a New York based fashion designer who is widely recognised for her blasé takes on proportion, structure and visually stimulating fabricated textiles. She is also well known for her fresh take on knitwear – possibly as a result of designing knitwear for large New York based labels such as Barney’s and LaROK shortly after graduating with her BS in Fashion Design from Philadelphia University.
Yee is consistently creating applause-worthy collections that are unique and inimitable but still versatile and completely wearable, giving her customers a look that encompassed sophistication, power and a downtown New York approach.
Constantly pushing the boundaries of what fashion is and where it could possibly be going, the designer is inspired by trips to her parents’ native land – Hong Kong – as well as unique pieces of clothing. Yee strives to surpass the principles of modern day dressing and advocate her customers to do the same through wearing her custom pieces.
This is surely a designer that aims to push the boundaries of fashion and design with her refreshing manipulation of muted palettes, distorted and exaggerates forms, lavish materials and plush knitwear – all while maintaining her unique design integrity.
In her latest collection Yee has combined refinement and an urban edge effortlessly! She has modernised traditional crochet through the use of contemporary forms and fresh colours. The collection also includes bold prints and interesting textured textiles that seem layered but have an elegant aspect. The collection encompasses attention-grabbing pieces that have been cut in unusual styles.
Ann Yee never fails to impress with her ever captivating collections thus equipping the Ann Yee woman with a stylish yet completely original look that exudes confidence as well as a New York City edge!
