The British Plus-Size Fashion Weekend: an event not to miss
On 15th February, a key fashion event will begin in London, and it’s not the five-day one you’re probably thinking of. Instead of focusing on the “clotheshorse” models that will soon strut down the catwalk at London Fashion Week, this two-day event will celebrate curves and, as clothing brand Simply Be says, “fashion without limits”.
Taking place at Shoreditch Town Hall in London’s Old Street, The British Plus-Size Fashion Weekend will hold a variety of events dedicated to plus-size women. With a day ticket, you will be able to attend the styling master class, fashion show and Plus-Size Models 101 class, which will be teaching potential models how to break into the curvaceous industry. Also on offer is the plus-size swap shop event, with leftover garments donated to those in need, and a discussion panel headed by industry experts.
Featuring clothing and swimwear for size 12+ women, a number of designers at BPSFW will be showcasing their collections, including Simply Be, Cult of California and Carolyn de la Drapiere, who creates unique “one-off” pieces fit specifically for your body. The fashion weekend will also promote new, amateur models alongside professional ones, with Jada Sezer as the face of the event.
Founded by blogger and designer Remi Ray and Evolve International Media (a lifestyle brand dedicated to the plus-size community), British Plus-Size Fashion Weekend looks like it’s set to stay, and with celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Adele celebrating their curves, we wouldn’t be surprised if this event soon catches up to the prestigious London Fashion Week.
