NYFW – Lela Rose A/W 2013 collection
Lela Rose’s collection for this coming fall is one of whimsical fantasy. The designer’s inspiration this season blossomed from the Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales, a world of “dark humour and charm,” said Rose of her inspiration. Intricate laces and vine-like embroidery haunted romantic jacquard sheath dresses, while heavy, jewelled necklaces adorned creamy white silk confections. Forest neutrals and acidic brights come together in Rose’s colour palette, with stormy grays, burnt oranges and rosy fuchsias taking centre stage.
The show began with sharp jackets and cropped pants, remaining relatively simple in design to showcase the charismatic prints made exclusively for Rose. As the jackets grew into longer coats, Rose drifted into her natural habitat of perfect knee-length dresses. Whether they were dip-dyed in pink, embroidered with feathers, or hemmed with delicate lace, each one was more eye-catching than the last. The final gowns were simple black and cream, but floated in a dreamy cloud of silk and lace as the models strutted down the runway. Each look was fairy dusted with curly up-do’s and light shimmery make-up. This enchanting collection is of yet one of Lela Rose’s strongest, and we can’t wait to see her fantastic visions come to life in future seasons.
