Second on the official LFW schedule today was Bora Aksu. The label took us to the roaring 20s, with a contemporary twist.
The designer got creative and introduced a lot of contrasts for this show. Luxe leather teamed with delicate lace, and loose silhouettes tied in with laced-up corsets created the ultimate hourglass figure. The neutral palette was livened up with hues of pinks and purples, with feminine and masculine brought together in a clever way. This ingenious mix of man and woman highlighted the ongoing struggles of the 20s, when women were trying to gain an equal place in society, with men.
The 20s inspiration remained apparent throughout, as Aksu sent modern-day flapper dresses, elongated high necks and dropped waists down the runway. Crocheted headbands went over hair slicked back on the head. The make-up was kept as simple as make-up was in the 20s. With rouged lips and shadowed lips, the models’ faces lacked nothing in colour.
Despite the pops of purple and pink, where the collection lacked in colour, Aksu more than made up for with his use of a variety of textures, with lace, silk and tulle.
The “Frow” included celebrities such as Delilah, Dionne Bromfield, Brix Smith-Start, Kate Nash and Laura Whitmore. These famous names looked on as the Turkish-born designer sent down some stunning pieces.
Overall, Aksu’s collection was awe-inspiring, taking us back to a decade that was a revolution in fashion. Greats such as Chanel and Poiret came from this decade, and so there is no denying that Aksu looked to an amazing fashion era for his latest collection.
