NEWGEN winner Liam Fahy to light up fashion week
Shoe designer Liam Fahy is creating a one-off design for this fashion week. This extraordinary design will be fitted with crystal lights and will definitely light up the catwalks. Fahy said that every once in a while his company takes on a “special project”, and this shoe definitely is special. One piece of this shoe is embellished with a nickel sole signature, which takes as much time to produce as the entire upper of a normal shoe. Fahy’s past designs have been made from exotic materials such as python, crocodile, Swarovski crystals and lizard skin, but this light-up shoe is his most challenging design. The shoe had to be made in the company’s factory in Venice and with De Montfort University in Leicester, as a team of specialist technicians were needed to add microchips to the shoes. It’s no wonder that Fahy’s shoes are some of the most expensive footwear on average worldwide, despite the company only being a year old.
All Fahy’s hard work has paid off as he has been awarded the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN award. This means Fahy’s collection will be displayed at Somerset House from Friday 15th February to Tuesday 19th February. Previous NEWGEN winners have included Alexander McQueen, Mathew Williamson, Boudicca, Christopher Kane, Erdem and Mary Katrantzou, as well as many other influential fashion designers. Fahy expressed his excitement in winning the award: “It’s great to have a highly respected institution like the BFC recognise and support our label. We’re really looking forward to showing the new collection.”
We believe success is on the horizon for Liam Fahy. This elaborate shoe design appears to be a step in the right direction.
