NYFW – Fulgani and Shane Peacock A/W 2013 collection
Last night’s Fulgani and Shane Peacock (FSP) autumn/winter 2013 collection brought to the Studio of the NYC Mercedes-Benz Fashion Show an electrifying edge and a spark of provocative beauty.
The collection led an enthusiastic and excited audience into a world of co-existing opposites, intriguing tensions and slightly wild, rebellious, yet utterly perfect elegance.
FSP’s garments uniquely combine fantasy and reality, feminine fragility and masculine strength, timeless tradition and avant-garde modernity, fluid movement and rigid severity. This intrinsic juxtaposition of ideas finds its physical expression in the contrast of fabrics (the weightless sheers and the luxurious silk velvets, the romantic lace and the brilliant sequin), in the contrast of patterns (the Erté-inspired prints and the solid colours), in the opposition of accents and details (the coloured feathers and the metallic bodice armours), and in the contrast of the lines (the sharp angles interacting playfully with the natural curves of the female body).
Pointed shoulders, metal collar-like necklaces (courtesy of The Stockroom), full-length leather gloves (courtesy of Gaspar Gloves), bare backs with accentuated straps, bring to the foreground a hint of edgy sexuality.
There is nothing subtle, nor simple about FSP’s haute couture vision: whether you like it or not, it simply grabs you, it challenges you, and it makes you question your own ideas of femininity and womanhood. The end product is truly stunning, truly breath-taking: ultra luxurious, ultra sensual, ultra feminine with a twist of wicked, glamorous, female sexual power.
