Perhaps one of the most anticipated shows of the first day of LFW, Felder Felder was brimming with celebrity attendees, including Molly King (The Saturdays), Mischa Barton and Zara Martin. The show space was completely packed out – so much so that some members had to be placed in a separate room to watch the show live on a screen!
The A/W13 collection itself was more of a “wearable” look, featuring a quirky twist on your average trench coat. Quite unlike classic, “original” trench maker brand Burberry, Felder Felder used blush-rose coloured trench coats, made from a thin, fluid rubber. As well as this modern take on a classic, the label introduced various latex pieces, such as legging-style trousers.
The overall colour palette had romantic undertones, as we saw hues of moss greens and rich burgundies. These different shades completed the element of 70s decadence. Once again, as in previous shows from this season’s LFW and NYFW, we saw a contrast in textures, from knits, to rubber, to suede. The use of contemporary materials to create classics, such as the featured cigarette pants, updated the collection to give a very modern twist on 70s glam.
As the models strutted down the catwalk, a remix of the Velvet Underground’s Venus in Furs was the main soundtrack – all adding to the retro vibe. After winning the NEWGEN sponsorship three times, and with fans including Rihanna, Gwyneth Paltrow and Florence Welch – who can often be seen wearing the brand’s clothes – Felder Felder is a design force that evidently still has a lot more to give… and we can’t wait.
