LFW – London College of Fashion MA 2013 Show
Yesterday every fashionista in London started to lace up their best heels and trade in their shopper bags for the Alexander Wang, in order to impress at London Fashion Week. It was such an amazing start at the Royal Opera house for the London College of Fashion MA 2013 Show – a chance to really showcase raw and diverse talent from the UK’s leading institution for fashion and education.
Ten designers from all walks of life sent their designs down the brightly lit runway and…it was fabulous! Maddalena Mangidavori set the show in motion with her use of soft textures and palette, really homing in on that nude and white trend that has been so popular with celebrities during New York Fashion Week.
The menswear was very well-cut and executed, featuring long-haired models with optician-style glasses with long layers. The way the last few menswear collections were put together pushed the boundaries and welded sportswear with smartwear, playing with the natural silhouette.
The designer who stole the show, however, was Min Wu. She used artists such as Anthony McCall with his “light series” to influence her work. The unique pattern-cutting techniques combined with her modernistic inspirations gave her these clean lines and folds. The ombre affect, particularly with the dresses and jumpsuits, was incredible and light in fabric making it look easy to wear.
Overall, this was a fantastic show to watch and gives you an insight as to who might be following in the footsteps of Charlotte Olympia or JW Anderson.
