LFW – The International Woolmark Prize 2013
Saturday was the day to celebrate all things wool. The morning at the luxurious ME hotel became host to a delightful press breakfast to celebrate the International Woolmark Prize 2013.
The competition, now in its 60th year, has very much kept a very low profile. However, 2013 has seen a judging panel full of fashion icons, such as Donatella Versace and Victoria Beckham. With such prestigious names representing the prize, it came to London Fashion Week this season to unveil its winner. Previous Woolmark Prize winners include Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent.
Over the course the year, regional awards have given out all over the globe and entrants from Europe, USA, China, Australia, Japan and India were asked to represent their region with their brilliant designs.
At the breakfast, a short humbling speech from CEO Stuart McCullough allowed guests to admire the designers work and see the pieces up close and personal.
The end of day two was closed with the announcement of the winner, Christian Wijnants from Belgium. His work featured the use of Merino wool and used the idea of starting from a single yarn to explore its full potential.
