LFW – Vivienne Westwood A/W 2013 collection

As the show started at the Saatchi Gallery, the front row (including Brix Smith-Start) were anxious to see the autumn/ winter 13 collection from Vivienne Westwood to be showcased. Starting fashionably late, we were graced with models that had been divided into boy and girl characters.

With hair by Toni & Guy, Catherine Denueve was the inspiration for the elegant, voluminous styles. MAC provided the make-up and we were not surprised to see a strong and striking look for the models of Ms. Westwood. The models had ghostly white faces with strong geometric designs around the eyes, exaggerating their features dramatically.

As are typical with this iconic brand, we saw an abundance of the famous drape dresses with the asymmetric cut hems and plenty of belted and long shirts that looked almost office chic. The whole collection had a very definite chic air to it and exuded elegance. 

Feminine cuts and outerwear took a strong theme in this collection. We saw everything from classy dresses and cardigans to sequinned jumpers paired with slouchy raspberry coloured shorts. Clashing of cuts, colours and textures all stood out but worked in perfect harmony echoing the slightly zany character of their creator.

Accessories, naturally, were not left to the imagination. Bright bold handbags were clutched to the models side, offering yet another pop of colour. We particularly loved the rounded sunglasses that drew the eye instantly to the models ashen faces.

The spectators of this show were definitely treated to some beautiful designs and fabrics and we certainly are a fan of Dame Vivienne’s creations!
