Girlishstyle: From the Middle East straight to you
When most of us ladies shop for clothes we tend to shop at well-known high street chains or online stores that you see advertised in fashion magazines. However, it is sometimes worth considering independent retailers from other parts of the world.
Girlishstyle is a label that was created by Ayelet Shahak and Galit Tamir. What is great about these two ladies is they haven’t been through university or worked for well-known designers. Ayelet is married and has a 16 year old son. She likes to visit lots of new exhibitions, performances, movies and shows in Tel Aviv. Wherever Ayelet goes she finds inspiration from different cultures and arts. Galit is a married mother of three daughters and spends most of her time at home. She loves to cook and read and has personally designed her house, including her daughters’ rooms.
The pair make clothes for mature women who love and appreciate unique comfy fashion. Their blue trench coat is perfect for an older lady and will be bang on trend this summer as it’s quite nautical.
This red shirt will look great with a pair of jeans and a stripy blazer during the summer months.
Their collection consists of a mixture of pants, shirts, jackets and dresses. The garments are everyday clothes that flatter the female body and are generally in subdued colours of black, grey, blue and brown.
The emphasis is placed on small details. For example these harem pants have an unusual fastening at the front.
They’re a classic colour but the fastening just makes them that bit different. Ayelet and Galit make all their pieces by hand, which they say “is the instant connection to an inner strong, without limitations…”
The pair mention that what inspires them is quite varied but tends to connect with the arts and culture. “Our first collection was inspired by ancient civilisations, such as Adinkra African symbols and the cultural lifestyle of the Mongol tribes. Our last collection was mostly inspired from the urban world and vibrant living surrounding us.”
