LFW – Simone Rocha A/W 2013 collection
The inspiration behind Simone Rocha’s A/W 2013 collection was the memories of both of her grandmothers’ wardrobes when she was growing up. “It’s so nostalgic but I wanted to do it in a young way. It has heritage, but I wanted to do it in a way that changes it,” she said backstage. This couldn’t be more evident with the show’s girlish charm and ladylike ensembles. The garments were obviously influenced by a much earlier era, yet still had injections of freshness and a contemporary edge.
Knee-length dresses and skirts appeared throughout the show in shades of gelato. Many of them paired with dainty head-pieces and kooky sunglasses. Also featured in both black and white were flower detailed mesh dresses and skirts, which were daring yet still so sweet. Models wore quirky loafers to accompany the garments throughout the show – one of the many elements that assisted in giving the line a modern touch. Rocha’s use of fabrics throughout the collection was impressive with shimmering tweed, faux fur and patent leather all appearing in her family tribute.
With the peplum being ubiquitously in 2012 Rocha gave it a twist with many dresses and skirts flaring out to one side. It wasn’t all princesses wear though: wide legged trousers were featured with midriff tops creating a “just threw it together look”.
Undoubtedly, when watching Rocha’s catwalk shows women will adore the clothes. What’s more though, they will be taken on a nostalgic journey filled with meaning, love and a strong urge to get fabulously frocked up for a tea party!
