Fuze 2013: Fashion, dance and music show

Fuze is England’s largest student run fashion, dance and music event, run solely by Bristol University students entirely for charity. Held in the centre of Bristol at Brunel’s Old Station, next door to Temple Meads train station, it was the perfect setting for the show; big, spacious and full of character.

This year’s chosen charity was Unseen, a charity putting a stop to human trafficking at all levels. Human trafficking is now the largest illegal trade in the world. Some women are abducted and sold, some are deceived into consenting by the promise of a better life and some feel entrusting themselves to traffickers is the only economically visible option. The UK is a significant destination country for women, children and men to be trafficked into the sex trade. Unseen were acknowledged through a series of videos and a short speech at the start of the show, as well as having a stand in the room where you could go for more information. All funds from the event – that was held over two evenings – will go to Unseen UK.

The show was jam-packed, full of dance routines that made us tired just watching! Each dance was full of enthusiasm and creativity; every dance was different to the next and perfectly in sync. The chosen music swept the whole audience up into what was a carnival created by the dancers on stage.

In-between the dance numbers we saw models wearing the latest looks from various designers and brands that supported the evening. Smaller local brands such as 71 Queens and Fox and Feathers to more popular brands like Serge DeNimes and Topshop. The stage was owned by models, that weren’t really models but University students wanting to help a good cause.

The audience were cheering and singing throughout the show, making it even more entertaining and enjoyable. The show wouldn’t have been as well put together or ran as smoothly and as professional if it wasn’t for the great team of students that worked to ensure everything was perfect. A special well done to the sound techs, the choreographers, fashion team and all the staff whose work was seen (even if they weren’t) and anyone whose job we haven’t mentioned! It was a pleasure to be invited to Fuze and to witness such an exciting, fun event – and even better that it was all for a good cause.

We’re already looking forward to Fuze 2014 and if you are local to Bristol it’s a brilliant excuse for a night out!
