MFW – Jil Sander A/W 2013 collection
As the lights went up for the Jil Sander show, a quick glimpse at the show notes should have proven we were in for a treat. Even Anna Wintour hotfooted it to the front row to be among the exclusive number of people to sit around the square catwalk.
As the models took to the runway, it was evident this collection had one theme in mind: minimalism. Every single look was minimal yet chic and oh so effortless. The Jil Sander woman is that of confidence, who holds her head high with her beautiful tailored navy overcoat, sashaying as she walks.
The collection was very much a simple and beautiful one at that. We saw plenty of muted navy and slate greys, with the occasional pop of colour such as canary yellow or cornflour blue.
With the minimal collection unfolding, it was clear that the designer wanted us to keep our eyes on the looks. Accessories were kept to an absolute minimum, with a handbag here and a pair of sunglasses there. Everything else was about effortless chic.
There was much more freedom in the palette of this collection compared to Jil Sander’s S/S 2013 collection, opting for high-class feminity and achieving it time and time again. This collection was about preciousness and precision, and boy did it show us how to wear a tailored piece with style.
